COG is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Gordon, along with Co-Investigators Drs. Steven Carswell and Jan Grycznski, has received a grant award from the National Institutes of Health – National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities entitled “Avatar Assisted Therapy for Probationers and Parolees with Substance Use Disorders.” This study is a Phase I, Small Business Technology Transfer award that seeks to develop an Avatar Assisted Therapy (AAT) platform for probationers/parolees with substance use disorders who are in need of outpatient substance abuse treatment. AAT uses the Internet to enable clinicians and clients in substance abuse treatment programs to interact in group sessions from separate and remote locations in real-time through the use of avatars (i.e., digital self-representations).
